Allspice is a warm, fragrant spice with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. It’s a common ingredient in Caribbean cooking, where it’s known as Jamaica pepper.

Allspice is a key flavour in jerk seasoning blends. These dry rubs are used to marinate chicken and pork before they’re cooked on the grill. You will also find it in Caribbean stews and dishes like rice and peas.

In other parts of the world, allspice is added to meatballs, pickles and casseroles. In the Middle East, it adds a warming note to braised meat dishes.
